He said the new HMRC rules were aimed at tackling that, but it was unclear how firms who failed to register for UK VAT would be dealt with.
"Why should a phonograph spares manufacturer in Idaho bother to register for VAT in the UK and how are you going to make them do it?" he said.

I know somebody at HMRC pretty well and he had as much warning about details of the new schemes as the public did! The whole thing is a mess and because so many resources are being diverted to schemes like this (and furlough fraud) fewer people can get on with their normal jobs. I can see the end of the tax year being fun...
