Zoinks! Valve amps, circuit-bending, scary clowns - Where will it end?
I decided it was time for an FZ-1 clone. Couldn't find any 2N270s, so had to rely on the Ge PNP stash instead. I had trouble choosing transistors because my DMM died recently, and nothing I had seemed to have enough gain, but just when it was getting annoying I thought I'd just try a 9V battery instead - and it was like Frankenstein's monster in the electrical storm
It sounds like an evil evil Fuzztone, but with more of a Mk 1 punch-in-the-face than the FZ-1As I have. I'll go into it all in more detail, with clips, on the blog.
Here are pics - the 'corrosion' effect is just that - I used this stuff you put on brass to artificially age it, and masked off the name with tape and adhesive letters. Too bad I got it wrong...
I can't compete in the beauty stakes, but I kind of like the post-nuclear look, though I was hoping for matt black. Knobs are ancient, made by Bulgin.
