Leave the frets in. The board should be re-useable unless it warps a lot when it comes off. Best thing to do is clamp the board between a couple of straight planks of wood as soon as it comes off the guitar to keep it straight.

I think this was Sunburst over sprayed with Lake Placid Blue. No sign of black in the middle of the body but a few spots of red in places.
A couple of bad ground connections and a badly re-soldered jack were the only electrical issues. I’m not surprised that Jags often have ground issues. Leo Fender must’ve been on some serious medication when he designed this wiring! The smallest amount of corrosion causes the whole thing to hum like mad.

Thanks again Jim!
Will give it my best and take it slow, really want to preserve that fretboard.
Killer looking Jag!

That blue looks nice! Didn't Fender sometimes paint custom colours over sunbursts sometimes? Maybe it's original?
Great deals with: Stu, Graham, Sickle, Devnulljp, SteveG, peps1, paine, fuzzface6669, jetofuj, sciencefriction, jerms, rafmax, Bigfoot2000, whiskeyfuneral, monolithfuzz.

Fender shot custom colours over sunburst all the time in the 60’s. not sure that LPB is original tho as they never painted the entire neck pocket.

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
The paint stick technique came in very early 63. I’ve seen a couple of pics of early 63 Strats and Jags with fully painted neck pockets. The really weird thing is that the factory neck shim is painted over. Never seen that before and it leads me to think that it was maybe resprayed in the U.K. when it was imported new.

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
Hi folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster... I think the brain trust here probably knows more about TB MKIIIs than anywhere else so it seems like the right place to ask.
I'm messing around with a MKIII circuit on breadboard, and it sounds pretty great so far but I don't have access to a vintage or 'vintage-correct' unit to a/b the two. What I'd love to know is if there's a generally-agreed upon range of "proper" voltages for the MKIII transistors. That info seems pretty easy to dig up for fuzz faces and MKIIs, and I can find plenty of info on resistor values for different versions, but I can't seem to find any voltage measurements from vintage examples.
Thanks in advance and here are some attractive tung sol NPNs:
