Again, thanks for all the great information.

API, is this the type of mic you were talking about?

redeyeflight wrote:I really like the blue microphones blue ball. It's a dynamic mic that is phantom powered...the best of both worlds. You get the ability to use it at high volume levels like a dynamic but it has a really nice warm low-end of a condenser. I've been really happy with the sound of the tracks I've used it to record on. Also, it's damn cheap!! Well under 100 USD. Also, in the higher-end/pricer range the good ol' akg c414 is really an awesome mic for capturing a more detailed sound and has a nice gain pad on it so that you can use it in front of a loud amp and not blow it up...sounds awesome on vocals and acoustic guitar as well (something that can NOT be said of the blue ball).

yes, the 414 can be nice for guitar cabs. I also like the Shure KSM32.
Everything is transitional.

Exactly, I edited my post, I meant the 545 Unidyne III.
The only tricky thing with buying used dynamic mics is it impossible to tell in what shape they are in soundwise, often they can lack hi end, especially utility mics like these often has been used hard.
But they are usually inexpensive enough to take the chance, if it´s bad just get another one!

I have a Heil PR40 that is pretty cool. The PR30 is supposed to be even better, but the 40 was cheap. They are a lot less grainy than a 57.

I would also agree with the recommendation for the Beyer M201.

Other than that...maybe an FET U47? :badlove:
