Castledine Standard Wah with output buffer (& fuzz!)

Post by HorseyBoy »

Thought I'd post these quick and dirty samples I recorded yesterday after I threw Stu's Standard Wah PCB into my Vox V847. This is one of the first of Stu's new PCBs which have a built-in output buffer, which makes it particularly friendly on fuzz. Low-tech recording, straight into the built-in mic of an iPad lying on the floor.
Here's the setup:
Wah setup.jpg
AV 65 Jazzmaster into a Vox AC4TV amp, using the Standard Wah and a bunch of fuzz, although I only recorded it with the jerms FZ-1 (Vonetta McGee) and the Jimmy Behan Mk I (Old Yella).

First, the wah on its own:

Next, the wah into the FZ-1. Really love this sound - the FZ-1 is dialled in nice and splatty and retains all its character with the buffered wah:

Finally, the wah into the Mk I. Gotta love that buffer:

Jezus that's a clean playroom!

The Castledine whacka cha wacka machine appears to have a well deserved reputation. Sounds very marvellous indeed :listening:

Thanks, fellas! Can't quite believe how much fun I'm having with this thing. And waveclipper, it's the only clean room in the house - perfect for photo ops :tu:
I forgot to say the wah is setup exactly as Stu sent it. I haven't started messing with the trimpots yet - haven't really seen a need to.
I should also add that the old Maxon D&S in the pic was the only fuzz that didn't play nice with the wah. Must have something to with the input buffer on the Maxon?
