Muff Shootout

Post by redeyeflight »

Two fine examples of Muffs from the collection of Mr. Jerms. A V1 Triangle (crazy knobs) and a PNP triangle (regular knobs). Do you want it scooped or biting? :badteeth:

Yeah, I gotta say I prefer the one on the left by a wide margin.

I like em both too. The PNP one cuts better as it's much more midrange focused but the crazy knob one just has so much low end and a crystalline high to it. As DaCod pointed out it seems to let some clean low end through, it's super extended. The PNP one is just super cool sounding though. We need to compare that one to Jerms PNP rams head muff. I remember really loving that one as well.

My favourite is a triangle knob PNP one too. I don't think it's as aggressive as that one, but it has more bite than my others.

I just looked at my old Triangle with the pot codes dating it to 1972. It has fs36999 transistors. Are these PNP or NPN? I'm not smart enough to know.

Does anyone have an opinion of them? They seem to be quite mysterious.

Those would be the "classic" npn trannies. I think the story goes that they were relabeled for EHX. Pretty sure that's what the muff on the right in the video is packing.
