it is most certainly. (i didn't mean funny-ha-ha, but funny-oddball/arcane/bizarre) definitely rock n roll
i love that two of the most respected rock n roll guitarists took sweeney back to basics, but not to the usual blues touchstone artists, rather an unsung but integral rhythm & blues guy who isn't normally mentioned, especially for his guitar contributions. I love that JR's funky v chord left a lasting & amusing impression on both of these old guys.

Jimmy Reed was way more popular (and influential) back then than he is now. Everybody loved Jimmy Reed.
He had widespread appeal.

^ Very true, Chank. Neil Young was another Jimmy Reed devotee. I think he was a "gateway" artist for a lot of that generation.

Exactly. Hell, he was pop music for the black audience back in the day. Then the 60's guitarists coming up,
they all listened to him too, but he's kind of slipped thru the cracks as far as the younger generations.
Probably cause he was more subtle and had a cool, slinky style rather than in your face virtuosity.
So it's nice to see Jimmy Reed get some respect & propers in this modern age.
I wonder if The Yardbirds even knew what having "a charge account at Goldblatt's" meant.
(I knew 'cause I grew up in Chicago)

It's pop blues. Slim Harpo was another guy who was hugely popular and, similarly to Jimmy Reed, barely gets mentioned anymore. I think their relatively clear vocal delivery had a lot to do with their widespread popularity.
