Utter Class. The best and the worst of the British wrapped up in one album. Tough call between this and 'Village Green' as my favourite Kinks LPs.

I'm going to go and listen to this right now.

Absolutely +1
...Although, I loved Village Green so much, i think i burned-out on it :shocked2:

that was years ago...I can now listen to it again.

Also 'Something Else...' is a favorite
but just about everything from '63-'70 is excellent, for sure...

You guys have the tracks from The Great Lost Kinks Album, right? --(aborted LP from c.68)...

my soundtrack in the car today for work was Big Star 3rd/Sister Lovers and Hüsker Dü - Everything Falls Apart (and more) + some New Day Rising...
If you struggle baby,
It only tightens up...

Yup, I love the rawness of the early stuff and the way it goes from that really visceral R&B to the most fantastically varied and lyrically rich material as Ray gets more confident. Post-1970 my interest wanes slightly but as you say, up to 1970 (including the Great ost Kinks Album) they're unbeatable on all counts.

LOVE the Hüskers (and Bob Mould's spectacular guitar sound throughout his career). Bob & Co. helped me through bad times. There's a tune for everything and Turn It Around (on Warehouse) was a big consolation at times. In a later incarnation The Act We Act did the same thing.

It's a lifelong annoyance that Flip Your Wig has such ratty production because Divide & Conquer is one of the all time great tracks and it sound like it was recorded live with one mic. Gah!

I just downloaded a gig they played at The Riverside in Newcastle, just up the road from me and I can't think how I managed to miss it. I saw Sugar there a couple of times in the early 90s and they killed. I was deaf for days.

I've rambled on - apologies.

Currently listening to :

BBC Radio 4 (where Phil Jupitus is trying absynthe, colonic irrigation & pigs' trotters)
Various Kinks (cheers kb892)
Buffalo Tom (especially Staples and Velvet Roof)
Tony Christie - Avenues & Alleyways (I'm on a bit of an easy listening kick this week)
Denny Laine - Say You Don't Mind

and searching for Ministry - Jesus Buily My Hotrod ... it's here somewhere!

Ah yes, just dragged out Flip and New Day and copied them to my work puter... reminds me of drinking (and blacking out a lot) in Isla Vista, a girl I knew from Carpinteria and the eventual "59 Times The Pain"! So glad I survived my youth!

+1 on Obscured By Clouds...that's a good LP.

should be "You shuffle in gloom in the sickroom..."

i know, those damn online lyrics sites can be iffy...

Further Rick W. dedications: Paintbox, Point Me At The Sky,
Scream Thy Last Scream, Astronomy Domine,
Matilda Mother (esp. alt. version w alternate lyrics from 40th anniversary set),
Nick's Boogie & Interstellar Binson Overdrive! from Pink Floyd's 1st session ever,
Echoes, Us & Them, Great Gig, "More" Main Theme,
If you struggle baby,
It only tightens up...
