D*A*M Custom Pedal History and Sales History

Post by mrpicard »

The following summarizes and clarifies ALL the known sales, competitions, and limited edition projects currently being run or proposed by The Captain for the next two months. This thread will continue to be revised and kept up-to-date as new information becomes available. The Status "Official" means that The Captain has approved the information and that he intends that the action will definitely take place. The Status "Unofficial" means that The Captain has not told me anything and that the information has been obtained by taking a best-guess from the public information available in these forums. The Captain is not to be held accountable for any of the "Unofficial" information; it is just a way to track what is being thought of and talked about by The Captain in the forums as possibles and what could/may happen. As with all guesses and projections the "Unofficial" information may not turn out as below so don't get upset if it does not happen.

D*A*M has produced many pedals over the years. There are three web-based photographic galleries that show these D*A*M pedals and details on the galleries and how to use them can be found here D*A*M Pedal Galleries.

A collection of videos and sound clips of D*A*M pedals are also held at the bottom of the D*A*M Pedal Registry page.

Sales
The Captain has not announced any plans for future sales. He is busy building pedals ordered via the previous Wait List process and he will not finish these until the beginning of 2009. However, there are occasional one-off sales on eBay.

Limited Custom Projects
Fuzzaround
Image
Project Date: April-November 2008.
Sale Process: Pedals were initially offered on a limited list based on first-come-first-served. Further pedals were then given/sold to contacts of The Captain. Final pedals where sold on eBay using Buy-It-Now and Auction processes.
Cost: Initial price for forum member £250.00 + shipping. Defect pedals were £245.00 + shipping (if mint they would have sold for £265.00 + shipping). The price of the auctioned pedals are listed below.
Details: This is a replica of the Baldwin Burns Ltd Buzzaround. There were 62 pedals as follows: The first set of 10 pedals were in Black Hammerite (except number 001 was a special "Buzzaround Gray"); The next 20 pedals were in Pearlescent Amber Metal Flake; The next 5 were in Hammerite Red; The next 10 were Pearlescent Amber Metal Flake; The next 5 where Hammerite Green; The next 3 where Black n Gold hand-painted by The Captain; The next were Chrome, Brushed Chrome, OD Green and then Bright Fucking Red (owned by The Captain); The last 5 were Pearlescent Amber Metal Flake defects. The first 10 pedals were built in one day on 25/05/2008 and the last pedals were sold on eBay on 10/11/2008.
Pedal #001, in special "Buzzaround Gray", was given to kb892 because it was his original Buzzaround that The Captain used in order to create the Fuzzaround.
Pedal #052 was made by Dave especially for Linzi. The idea is that she would not keep the pedal but would sell it and keep the money for herself as a work bonus. It is the only D*A*M pedal made for Linzi so this makes it very rare.
Full details of the Fuzzaround can be found at: D*A*M Fuzzaround Thread and Last D*A*M Fuzzaround Pedals.
Status: Official. Pedals have been built and delivered.

FUZZrong
Image
Project Date: There have been three releases as follows:
- December 2007, one off custom project of 33 pedals. These sold for £125.00 + delivery.
- December 2007, small second run of approximately 7-10 pedals the majority of which went to Japan.
- September 2008, 3 Lime Green pedals sold on eBay. These sold for £160.00 + delivery.
Sale Process: The first limited release in December 2007 was subscribed to via a limited list based on a first-come-first-served basis. The second small run that went to Japan was made via The Captain's contacts. The last sale of 3 pedals have been via eBay.
Details: High-quality replica of the Mosrite FUZZrite. The pedal has two knobs, being Volume and Depth. The December 2007 custom enclosures came in the following colors: Boston Green; China Red ; Antique Copper; Silver Hammerite; Punk Pink; Black Hammerite. The choice of the green, red, copper and silver finishes were made because the Rosac Nu-Fuzz (cousin to the FUZZrite) was made in those colours. The circuit is total point to point with no copper tracks just blank a matrix board. It contains 2 transistors with one being a OC76 and the other being either a metal can 2G381 or a CV7003. Discussion on this first custom release can be found here: D*A*M FUZZrong Thread.
In September 2008 3 individual Lime Green pedals were released onto eBay and these contained AC125 and OC76 transistors.
Status: First limited release pedals are delivered. It is envisaged that more will be released onto eBay in the future.

1965 - Tone Bender MKI Replica
Image
Project Date: May 2007
Sale Process: Limited list based on first-come-first-served
Cost: £145 + delivery
Details: Approximately 21 of these limited edition pedals were produced. The pedal is based on the 1965 Gary Hurst MKI Tone Bender. It came in a grey hammerite case (basically the same enclosure as the MKII/1966), has two Daka-ware chicken heads knobs (Red, Black, White or Cream) being Attack and Level and on the side it has a '65 / Super Zee selector. The point-to-point wired board contains 2 x Texas Instruments 2G381 (Metal Can) transistors and one OC75 (metal can or black glass depending on the pedal tuning requirements). One pedal has a Mullard OC71 instead of the OC75. Discussion on the pedal can be found here The Holy Roller Thread.
Other: On 24 August 2008 a record price of $US1,825.00 was paid on eBay for D*A*M 1965 pedal number 21. This particular pedal was the last one made by The Captain. This pedal was the only 1965 without a battery drawer. It was made as a set along with a 1966 & a MKII all for the same customer that asked for the battery drawers not to be fitted.
Surprisingly on 8th June 2009 The Captain released another ten "copper head" 1965 pedals, 4 of which went to private buyers and 6 which were released on eBay for one day auctions. These contain a translucent copper paint job. One pedal contained the 2G381 transistors but the other 5 contained Mullard OC78 transitors. The OC78 transistors tighten up the whole behaviour of the fuzz tone and puts things into some kinda order rather than it randomly swinging freely like the 2G381 does. The OC78’s also remove the ‘artefacts’ or ‘static’ that you’ll sometimes get with the stock set-up when running the Attack high; It’s just a little more focused.
Status: All pedals have been delivered. There are not plans to build more 1965 pedals.
