I used to have a clone Steve built me of that pedal, I had to sell it and I wonder where it ended up

I think we may have spoken about Steve’s before.
I know it’s all subjective but are we thinking the owner of Steve’s 1.5/MK2 possibly brought it into the shop at a later date to get it modified? Or maybe something failed and he returned it and Sola modded it to “new spec” before re-selling it?
I guess there’s many explanations
The 'taking it back to the shop' theory sounds a bit fantastical to me. If we accept that the MK1.5's were being sold by other music shops than just Musical Exchange, then it would make sense for Sola Sound to resupply them with some more unbranded pedals at a later date. The enclosure of Steve's weirdo is also the (later) die-cast type, which it's more unusual to see a two-transistor MK1.5 built in.

It's difficult to draw conclusions when the pedals that resurface make up only a fraction of all that were originally made. Just like there are more blue Fuzzbugs around (waiting for me to find them :badteeth: ), there could very well be more of those weird unbranded three-transistor Tone Benders. Unless of course the original owner of Steve's did take it back to the shop!

Fuzzbug mkII story.
Sometimes in the late 90’s I found myself in a famous London market very early in the morning looking at a table full of stuff for sale. Spotted this pedal which I knew nothing about. Seller asked for £20 which was not so cheap and I ended up paying that or maybe a bit less for it. Took it back home, plugged it in and all I could get was an oscillating tone with hardly any guitar sound. I realised it was faulty so was quite upset and just put it in a draw and forgot about it!
A few years passed, there was no Google at the time or Ebay or anything online ! I did manage to fix it by tightening the mounting screws and it worked fine ever since. At the time not many people were using fuzz boxes and I was playing an amplified acoustic. I used to ask people I knew about it but no one had a clue. 2010 I think, I posted pics of it on effectsdatabase trying to find out the story of it. Someone copied the pics to the Fuzzbug thread here so the story continues there. I was looking for more Fuzzbugs to confirm that it was not a one off pedal. After a while I was approached by the owner of the MK1.5 Fuzzbug who asked me if I knew anything about it. I directed him here and he ended up selling it to Ant.
I do use it every now and then as I play mainly electric now.
Really appreciates Nick’s work on the subject, his passion and the knowledge he is sharing is an inspiration!
So now, after 25+ years, the mystery of the Fuzzbug finally unfolds. Hope more will pop out soon!
