I've been thinking about mojo transistors lately. For originality we need NKT275s for a Fuzz Face or NKT213s for a Buzzaround what really what is the difference. What really is the difference between an NKT274 and a NKT275? I think the specs will show different gain ranges, etc but these transistiors have such wide ranges that there's probably a lot of overlap. It's not like a company is going to completely reengineer a transistor to go from one run to another. I'm actually wondering if they really needed a tight batch for a major manufacturer they would just do a large overrun and select based on certain gains. Those not selected got other numbers. I just don't know if they had the ability to make them to tight tolerances, or if they did, that was only for a client willing to pay for that level of detail (military). Of course there would be some bigger advances that would warrant a new designation such as wider frequency response, etc but for the most part I think the designation would be driven by what a major manufacturer would want with very little difference in the actual method and parts used in manufacturing. I think major mojo of one specific transistor over another by the same manufacturer is probably psychological.

I thought this would come up early. I love the yellow jacket OC44 in a Rangemaster.

The spam cans in a MK I or Fuzz Face :freakout: . Jim built me some pretty incredible circuits with the spammers and they are total desert island pedals.

Likewise with the Pigdog Driver MK I, OC44 yj: :crackjam: unreal.

Dave's Ac128 and OC81D MK II builds are also the epitome of MK II tone: :headbanger:

OC75 in the Stu's MK I: :rainbow2:

I would love to hear your seeing eye with 81's next to mine with 75's :drool2:

When comparing my OC75 MK II builds to the others, the 81D have more of a smooth, searing treble tone while the 75 are more on the gritty side. Both are epic. I find the 75 have more tonal range and better clean up, though I love them all. the AC128 seems to have some Big Muff qualities to it. I am a Big Muff junky so all good there.

2N1307. They have great beta, low leakage, and work great. I think I have had two out of 200 with relatively high noise, in line with the 2N3409s that I use.

New to this forum, late to this discussion...What trannies do you prefer in MK 1.5? :?:
