Favourite Trannie?
No not Dame Edna Everage
Do you have a favourite? would you buy or not buy a pedal because it had a certain trannie in it? or if you are a builder what do you like to work with?

I guess I'm pretty typical, but my favorites are TI 2G381, OC75, OC44, & NKT275. I've had a taste of each never been disappointed.

it's kinda like each circuit has a type of transistor that sounds great in it, ya know.... 275's for fuzz faces, OC75's for MKII's, 2G381's for MKI's etc. etc. not that other trans don't sound good, but those would be my faves in those particular pedals....

Agree with Jerms that the circuit kind of dictates...
OC84 in a MKII is really great, but I sure like the one I have with OC81Ds.
OC140/CV7112 in a Rangemaster circuit is really, really good.
Played a few fuzz faces with NKT275s and 274s, can't tell the difference really...

As far as germanium goes I'm open to just about anything except for AC series transistors.

Re: Favourite Trannie?
I really think it depends on the builder transistors do play a big part in tone but I think if the builder knows how to tune a pedal it takes it to the next level
Sometimes odd ball old germaniums can sound really good depending on the circuit.
It's good to experiment sometimes different components can give a slight difference in tone in a good way

I tend to like CV7112s, CV7003s, CV7355s, 2n1308s - sound good and are stable. NKT212s for less stable builds. For Si I like to use modern Fairchild, something about their transistors - probably in my head. Also like the button-style silicon house number & 2n4250.

OC82Ds just KILL in the Mk IV circuit.
