Any Jensen speaker knowledge?

Post by Doctor X »

Alright chaps

I just bought a Milkman amp which has a replacement speaker in it, a Jensen C12N which is stamped 220150. The Jensen website suggests it was made in the 50th week of a year ending in 1. Can anyone tell which decade it was made?

I believe that was made during the 50th week of 1961. It's a ceramic magnet, so definitely not 1951.
Great deals with: Stu, Graham, Sickle, Devnulljp, SteveG, peps1, paine, fuzzface6669, jetofuj, sciencefriction, jerms, rafmax, Bigfoot2000, whiskeyfuneral, monolithfuzz.

Love that it used to have a field coil! I'll bet is sounds fantastic. I like the old Jensen ceramics better than the AlNiCos: they're firmer so they don't mush out, yet the paper voice coil keeps it pleasant sounding.

I must admit I’ve heard the ceramics are very good. I’ve only got alnico.
Still I look forward to trying one in a vintage amp!

If you think of moving it on Mr X give me a shout :wink2: as ive something in the works it would sound great in!

Yeah, I like vintage ceramic Jensens, as well.

I have a 1964 C15N in my 64 Pro. It sounds killer!

Also, my 1970 Ampeg GU-12 has a C12R in it, and it sounds great too.

I'll bet that 61 C12N will be a great sounding speaker. :tu:

Yeah, the amp sounds great with this in it. Apparently it’s been re-coned at some point.

I had to recone all four of my '63 C10R when I got my old Super Reverb. They still worked but the cones were literally starting to crumble. They sounded great after the time too. I had done guys in Seattle do it (wish I could remember their handle), and try were great.

The '71 C8Q I just got got for my black-panel Vibro Champ sounds great.

Oh, I just remembered I installed a pair of '63 C12N in my '67 Twin. I'd had JBL D120, EVM12, Celestion Gold, and god knows what else over 20 years. I thought the Jensens sounded best: they were strong and clear, yet swirly and warm.

So, yeah, I dig the ceramics 😁
