'67 top logo Vox Cry Baby porn
As requested, pics of my recently acquired circa '67 top logo Cry baby with some shots next to a later Italian Cry baby for comparison.
Unfortunately it's not all original. The footswitch had a late 70's date code, the pot was a Dunlop from the late 80's, and the jacks were both replacements (nice switchrafts though), and the rubber feet are newer. I've repalced the footswitch with a Carling for true-bypass and put in a Fulltone pot, The circuit board is untouched however which is the most important part. Compared to the later Cry Baby (can style inductor) the top logo is a little bit fatter and has a bit more top end but not by much, but it's also noisier (hiss-wise). Overall the two are extremely similar. I have a new Area 51 pot on the way to put in the film can wah (which has the old Dunlop pot in it now), which will make it a better comparison. Also, the top logo board has a 100K resistor in parallel with the inductor whereas the later wah has a 33K, which will make a bit of difference as well. The thing I like about the top logo over the later wah is the pedal seems to have a bit more travel than the later more usual Vox/Thomas Organ/Dunlop style pedals. It's nowhere near as much as a Colorsound and maybe not quite as much as a Fulltone Clyde, but definitely enough to be noticeable. I'll try to make some clips later if I have time.

Nice score!
Those inductors have higher DC resistance and hence lower Q than the more common types, so it appears that the 100K was chosen to compensate.

Hey Dennis,API wrote:I have a similar one but it is marked "King Vox Wah" on top, are these as rare as the Cry baby ones?
Mine has a metalcan inductor marked "500" on top but the rest of the circuit is very similar but has a 4uf cap.
I've had both the top logo Cry baby with the Halo inductor, and the top- mounted King Vox wah like yours...both cool
sounding...mine were not as good as my others I have, though still quite good but that's just me, and partly the parts values of those circuits and where they possibly started at and where they may have drifted to...both are fairly rare...I've seen a handful of both over the years, but that's compared to MANY more Clydes, Grey Vox wahs, Script Clydes, etc.
What I did like about the case is that you get a much wider sweep than all the aforementioned, closer to the Colorsound stuff.
I'm surprised no one jumped on the "clover leaf" Cry Baby here(unless someone here did)...a good price was had for that rarity:

Re:
The King Vox came after the initial run of V846s and from the data I've collected, it seems they were made in much larger numbers than the Crybaby.API wrote:I have a similar one but it is marked "King Vox Wah" on top, are these as rare as the Cry baby ones?

I posted it in the Ebay heads up thread. I paid £35 for mine and I think the other couple that surfaced recently went for similar money...melodichaotic wrote:I'm surprised no one jumped on the "clover leaf" Cry Baby here(unless someone here did)...a good price was had for that rarity:
