Did they put that red paint on thick, or what?

The red paint is super thick and there are 2 coats of different coloured primer under it. Also the headstock veneer is 1/8th inch thick with a thick layer of epoxy holding it on
Electrics are original but fucked with. Worst soldering I’ve ever seen and I took out about 15 balls of solder that were rattling around inside. Pickups weren’t soldered to the pots. Hot wires were just hooked around the lugs and it was earthed by the shielding being pressed against the back of a pot by the control cover.
Astonishingly it sounded good plugged in and despite an old headstock repair it’ll be a good guitar when I’m done with it.

2 minutes with a pocket knife and it popped right off. I thought it was gonna be a nightmare to remove. Very happy to see that the headstock repair underneath is clearly a pro job. I was scared that the veneer would be holding it together.

Looks like '74 date codes on the pots and with the neck pickup placed back off of the neck joint it looks correct for a '74 body. The pickups look to be the correct original size and mini humbuckers (not routed out for some Super Distortions).
Can you see the serial #?
Wonder if the thick coats of paint are hiding anything? Like Vibrato screw holes. Wonder how the raw wood grain looks?
As long as the neck's not screwed up some how...that guitar should be able to be easily brought back to life for another chance to rock n roll!

It was just the switch!
The op-amp muff is the only one I really like for some reason.
Good luck with the SG!

Cool! I hoped someone on here would snag it. Great that it was an easy fix too.

Yep. Serial number and pots date it to 74. Patent number mini humbuckers appear to work perfectly. The neck is good and frets still have life in them and no extra routs, cracks or holes in the body as far as I can tell. Worst thing is that the holes for the tuners have been drilled, plugged and then reamed out badly. I’ll have to drill them again and plug with dowels before getting a new veneer. Not a hard job to do though.2guests wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 10:14 pm Looks like '74 date codes on the pots and with the neck pickup placed back off of the neck joint it looks correct for a '74 body.
