I've always just used dollar store 9volts. Used to be the red Eveready black cats, but now its Panasonics.

The Hardware Stores, Drug Stores and Dollar Stores I can tolerate shopping at have nothing but alkaline these days. I've been getting Eveready classic and Panasonic from amazon.
I bring my dead old batteries to the town recycling center. They have a bin for batteries in the electronics recycling container.
I miss the Walgreens Heavy Duty Carbons.
