Dream Fuzz Face

Post by Dullboy »

Hello everyone.

I was dreaming about a "perfect" fuzz face: one I could leave always on, with proper volume (no volume drop when engaged), volume gain and tone control, super dynamic, so I could get from light overdriven sounds to Hendrix heaven, 9V DC power, temperature stable.
No germanium or silicon preference.
Does it exist?

Thanks a lot

One to think about is the Castledine Custom Olympic, not strictly a fuzz face but sounds like one and nails everything you’re talking about

Fuzz Face and tone control is a difficult marriage... I'd rather set up a switch with a different input cap, but in the end, if you want a set-and-forget one, you'll find it pretty useless: way better a very well tuned pedal with the basic Volume and Fuzz controls, also because wisely lowering the guitar volume will help you to gain a noticeable clarity.

Among what I've tried, Analogman Sunface is absolutely the best of the best - I've got three (NKT275 White Dot Normal Gain, RCA Normal Gain and BC108), and are all different and very tasty sounding, with the added bonus to feel each one perfectly tweaked and fine tuned.
Just choose what flavour you're after, pull the trigger and live happy :tu:

The first one that came to mind for me was the Casteldine Olympic too. Then I switched thoughts to the Analogman Sun Face. I think both would work and both great suggestions.

Meathead deluxe sounds closest to what you’re wanting.

Castledine Pazuzu
Fuzz is set to full but it cleans up nicely with the guitars volume. Volume gets you well past unity. Dialing in the bias and filter can get you somewhere between a fat Fuzz Face and Vox 66.

Stop it, Dan! You’re making me regret selling!
How about a pic of that demon, for old times’ sake?
