Lazy J amps

Post by Steve »

Does anyone here own one or has played one? I'm looking for a tweed deluxe, Neil Young type tones. This builder always seems to come up.

Not long let one go.
Had it for a few years as my no 1 go to amp.
These are top quality.
Although with the celestion blue it can be a fair bit louder than say... a standard deluxe.
It will do the Neil young thing but will get pretty loud before doing it.
Winding up both channels will help achieve this.
I had the 10w model with 6V6’s.

It did and the trem.
Heard the reverb is killer too but I have a outboard fender reverb tank so...
looking back though having both would have been good for variation

I have long been looking at those amps but I just can’t bring myself to spring for one. I find them pretty expensive. I ended up biasing my deluxe for 6L6 and installing a Celestion Blue.

I would love to try one, or even purchase one but I have to get over the price first. They get awesome reviews and players seem to really like them.
Never argue with an idiot, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience

Same here, the price has held me back, especially getting one shipped to Australia. This ticks all the boxes, 6L6, Celestion Blue, beefed up transformers.... It's just the price that's stopped me.

I’ve had a J20 as my main amp for years. I have the reverb and vac on mine. The vac is really good, keeps the amps character even at really low volumes. Reverb is a good spring reverb.
Takes fuzzes really well... every one I ever tried works extremely well with it.
As said J20 is louder, and is just a bit different from Fender tweed deluxe as it has the Blue speaker and 6L6 tubes. It has a bass cut/ mid boost switch on the back which is usefull if you have brighter/darker pickup guitars. The two volumes are interactive, no need to cord jump the inputs, and you can control the amount of mids and breakup with them. There’s also a Lazy J20H which has even more headroom.
I have Fender 57 tweed Twin RI and Vox ac30 (ccx2 heavily modded) and the J20 outshines them easily. It is ”a rock star guality amp” and costs alot. I got mine used and it looked like it never left the original owners house. These pop up frequently at Lazy J Face book site.

I concur. They really are amps for those seeking top quality.

I was originally looking for a toneking or carr amp.
Pure boutique.
I got on the Jay list instead and was glad I did.
I think these amps shouldn’t be classed in that boutique amp group but more as a tribute to the original deluxe with a slightly different flavour.
Mine did have 6v6s and the 5Y3. For earlier breakup swap out that blue.
Although the blue is bold and punchy when needed.
My fuzz boxes sounded ace through it.
