Post by stella_blues »

El Cap makes a cameo appearance in this months Guitarist magazine explaining the differences between different tonebenders.

Spot the typo....

But the MKI was built with that selection of transistors for a while...

It's a good write-up! Leagues ahead of the garbage that appears in 'books' etc nowadays. Really have to nit-pick closely for mistakes this time. From what we know so far, it actually appears that some of the earliest 'large board' MKII's predate the known surviving MK1.5-conversions (aka 'small boards').

Crazy. I don’t know now about the return scenario.
I don’t know whether anyone would bother taking it back to be modded.
Maybe those MK1.5’s & 2’s were built so close together ( like weeks apart ) that there were MK1.5’s sat in the window unsold maybe?
I’m guessing people were trying before they buy? And the more positive feedback the MK2’s got Larry just pulled the MK1.5’s out the window and asked Gary to mod them up.

I know there’s no proof but for me that just makes more sense.
