Date Boss pedal w/o serial #?

Post by devnulljp »

I have an old Boss CE-2 chorus that's missing the label and serial # sticker. Always thought it was MIT, but it has the 3007 chip in it, which Analogman says is early MIJ.
The closest thing to a date code i can find inside is the JRC op-amp, which has the code 0541B. I always through the 'B' meant 90s. But 05 as the year looks like 2005?
Totally confused. Any idea how to tell the date of this thing? It's old enough it has the ACA adapter only sticker on it. CE-2 052-516B board.

You could sign up at the Bossarea forum and ask the question.

I could be mistaken, but I think all ce-2s had the 3007.

Maybe a photo of the inside of the battery compartment will give another clue?

Does the battery lid have plastic washers for the screws?

Here's a June 1988 MIT one for reference. Still has the ACA sticker.

The serial # sticker that's usually in the battery compartment is gone as is the label off the bottom plate.
No washers on the battery compartment lid.I told a lie -- there are little plastic washers on the screws holding the battery lid in place. What does that mean?
Further digging, I think you're right about the 3007
JRC488DD code looks to be 1990 no? So this is probably 1990~91 MIT?

Looks like a Sharp IC of some kind. Kinda hard to see, there's lacquer or glue on it. Looks like
TR9022 (or could be 9922, hard to see)
70TD (or YD)
Ring any bells?
Schematics I've found suggest that should be a TL022LP

Nothing of interest on the elctros, just voltage/temp tolerance values.

My 1983 MIJ CE-2 has a 4-digit code on the JRC 4558DD (2462, for 1982?), no B at the end. It also has green film caps instead of those silver ones and green chicklet caps

Wasn't there a year when the color of the plastic board protector changed?

Could be. My two def. 80s MIJ Boss pedals -- 82 OC-2 and 83 CE-2 -- have a flat yellowish plastic protector with a foam standoff. This one has the ridged clear plastic one with no standoff.

Yes, that is how the older vs newer "ribbed for her pleasure" versions look. Now, if I could just remember the year it happenned.

I just found this book on my shelf. Wonder if there are any clues for you in it?
