DAM 1966 w/Elite Casino & Deluxe Reverb...

Post by smogfalls »

Ay-up! Well, my DAM 1966 arrived in the post today (I won it in the auctions earlier this week, it's one of the germanium ones).
Anyway, I've been playing with it for a while and love it! I thought I may aswell do a quick clip of it too.
It's in Superbee mode with the attack on full and the level at noon. I'm using my Epiphone Elitist 1965 Casino (staying true to the Beatles theme!), into my Fender Deluxe Reverb with a Cannabis Rex speaker. Recorded through an sm57 into Logic where a touch of reverb was added.
Here's a picture of the setup...

And here's the soundclip...

(it's the only file currently uploaded)

Cheers,
Xan :)

cheers dudes, I was wondering actually if anyone with experience could tell me the differences they can hear between this 1966 and the ones that have the more sought after OC76's and such in? Cos I'm really happy with the way this sounds and can't imagine how it could sound any better!

Oh, and just incase anyone isn't aware, this is a 1966 with different transistors to usual. Here's how the Cap'n describes it...

"These pedals feature a slightly tweaked circuit over that of a regular OC76 loaded 1966 as in having a dual SFT type transistor circuit. These feature a SFT353 and a SFT317. Lots of buzz very choppy, very Mark Farner. Ideally suited to lower gain vintage voiced pick-ups and dark amplifiers"

My '66 has 2 OC76s in 'em. I couldn't tell you what the difference in sound is. I never played a different version, but I can tell you that I get a sound pretty close to yours.

Wow, just wow. Your taste in gear is spectacular. It's like looking into my own head. Great taste and style in your playing too. My 1966 + Epiphone Sorrento (Casino's single cut sister) is Beatle-heaven too. As for a comparison, I too can't compare as I have not played any other 1966. I do have a 76 under the hood though, here are my guts...

 thanks for all the nice comments dudes. It's much appreciated. Everyone on these forums has excellent equipment!
Ryan, those Sorrento's are beautiful looking guitars but I've sadly never had the chance to play one, how is it?

Squarewave, I can't recommend the Deluxe Reverb enough! It's a great amp and it handles better than any other amp I've ever played. I usually use the "normal" channel as the Vibrato channel can be a little too bright for fuzz, distortion and od. You can perform a very simple mod to rid of this issue, but I like the extra brightness for clean tones. Really sparkles.
One thing I would also recommend is changing the stock speaker. The stock speaker is really great but you can double the amps' potential but improving the speaker. After much research I opted for an Eminence Cannabis Rex. It tames the highs a touch and has a kinda smokey feel to it. Really nice speaker.
