Yeah, I’ll be selling this once it’s fixed up. Looks like the wiring is almost identical to a Rickenbacker 330 so it should be a simple job to get this finished. One pickup had a really badly connected ground wire that looked like it came out of the factory that way. Multimeter readings were all over the place. Maybe the bodged wiring just hardwired the fully working pickup. Hard to tell as the wiring was partially dismantled when I got it.

The wiring’s got me baffled on this. Tone and volume controls are somehow bypassed. Master vol and selector switch work fine. I’m just going to play it for a while and come back to the wiring when I’m less pissed off with it. Sounds good with flatwounds! Surprisingly good unplugged tone too.

Pickups are good now I’ve properly soldered the ground. Only measure 4.25 and 4.58 kOhm but they’re punchy and full sounding.

Tyranny getting 4 new acid tripped aluminium knobs... as soon as i figure out how to acid etch them
Black Rick is getting a new brain.
doing away with the old circuit board mounted pots & jack. hopefully this will 'pull the blanket' off the sound. kind of dark as it sits.
going master volume, master tone, treble bleed, 3-way switch and maybe a series/parallel switch.
and a black schaller bridge to match the black locking tuners i installed.
because none more black.

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
def not pretty. the pickups were supposed to be on a pigtail clip that slid over the lugs you see on the board.
not sure if someone back in the day did the direct connect solder thing or it came this way soldered on, from the factory.
it worked... just not awesomely. was advertised in their brochure as "active pickups/preamp without batteries!"
if that's what active sounds like, i'll pass

upholstering my cab. I think it's a Laney...bought it super cheap a long time ago and the plywood was an eyesore. I've flipped the handles since
