The Great British Valve Project

Post by resynthesis »

This may be of interest to some here

Quoting from the request for volunteers:

The UK was at the forefront of thermionic valve manufacturing for more than 100 years and now sadly we are the last remaining audio valve manufacturer. Thermionic valves still have many uses and are chosen by engineers, musicians and audiophiles alike. The Great British Valve Project (GBVP) is a unique volunteering opportunity aiming to restore U.K. radio and audio valve manufacturing using up to date methods alongside the machinery of yesteryear.

As the GBVP grows we need volunteers who can help us advance and reach our collective dream. Our aim is to create employment giving volunteers the opportunity to be paid for the work they love. We also plan to celebrate UK engineering prowess with visitor / education programmes.

If you are enthusiastic and would enjoy interesting technical work that is very different from the norm then our diverse range of projects: covering engineering, electronics, science, chemistry, automation, glass working etc. may be right up your street. Maybe you already have similar skills or experience and are willing to share and teach others, giving time freely, or possibly you just want to get your hands dirty and learn new engineering skills, either way we would be very happy to hear from you!

Our heritage factory located in the heart of England, close to J5 of the M5, is home to the project and the base for our volunteer team. While we need people on site, we also have remote volunteering opportunities and need experts to advise via phone, conference calls or on site. If you are looking for a new challenge then you have come to the right place – Do volunteer for The Great British Valve Project!
