Do we have a resident vox AC30 expert?

Post by squarewave »

Can anyone point me in the right direction of the do’s and do not do’s with vintage AC30’s.

I’m looking into getting a vintage example and I’m finding all the models a little perplexing.

So if anyone can hit me up with a linky that’d be tops

this website is pretty comprehensive, I've spent hours on it looking at early AC4s and the detail is jaw-dropping:

Handmade, high-impact, great-looking radical queer germanium fuzz. A different approach to 1960s-inspired fuzz pedals, no clones, check them out at https://goodfuzzysounds.com or on YouTube https://tinyurl.com/GFS-YT

I picked up a non-top boost one from 1964 a few months ago. It is most definitely one of the best sounding amps I have ever owned. The top boost models are great too but the non top boost ones have more headroom and I use mine with an attenuator and jump the bright and normal channels. Easy to go from clean to grind just with picking dynamics. I’ve played numerous reissues but none of them really sound like the older ones IMO.
