Multimeter Recommendation

My old 1992 Radio Shack multimeter just died. What is a good quality one to buy now. I use them for guitar, amp, and pedal teching, battery level testing, and continuity testing.

Any suggestions?

I have an old Fluke that has worked flawlessly for 15+ years.

Fluke are ace but may be a bit expensive for casual use (I gave mine away when I stopped making pedals). I've had a Uni-T for about 10 years which has been fine.

Amprobe are a nice cheaper alternative to FLuke, been using mine daily for about five years.

I've had a few and agree that Fluke is the gold standard but also not necessary for most usage, even at the semi-pro level. I've had an inexpensive Mastech model that I used for many years and it was generally fine. I dont remember *why* i upgraded but I did more recently to a BK Precision (model 388B) and its fantastic. I've also got a Tekpower analog multimeter which is helpful for looking at LFO operation (tremolo, etc) to see the needle actually oscillating with the LFO.

I have a Fluke 187 with a set of Hirschmann probes that I've been using for years and has never failed me.

I've used cheaper meters before, but the quality of the cables and probes was usually of a different standard, and when working with high voltage stuff it got risky sometimes (cable breaks and pieces of coper poking out the sleeves of the probes etc)

I did recently get an Owon scope meter (multimeter, frequency generator and scope in one) that's a surprisingly nice piece of kit at the price point (paid €225 or thereabouts).

Bought a Klein MM 720. Needed one quickly and it was the best one available at Home Depot. These new ones have ton's of new capabilites than the old one that died. The auto sensensing and auto ranging functions are so simple now. It even has a temperature probe!
