Wild guess here but: #0402 built on 1st Feb 2004... maybe 04 is for 2004, 02 is for Feb?

I have one that looks exactly like that!

Soundwise, I agree completely... it doesn't have a ton of dirt on its own, but excels at pushing an already dirty amp further. The frequency response seems to be pretty wide.... with more lows than a current "standard". I can't remember what number mine is. 6 or 9 I think. Here it is:
