I've never used one, but I assume it merely involves a bit of planning before you start playing.

Something like if you want both effects to engage at same time, you have them both switched off so that they both switch on when you put yer foot down, or if you want to switch between fuzz only and then wah only you'd have fuzz on and wah off when you start playing or vice versa depending onnwhat you want to start with.

Might be wrong.
