I think the common assumption is one of two things. One, that the input cap was changed to give it more of a full range sound. Two, that the bias may have been tinkered with. Both of those are pretty standard for the modern rangemaster clone. Almost everyone adds a cap selector or cap blend at the input, and a lot of manufacturers set their bias to optimum on individual units before they head out the door. I do this. I know Dave does it too.

Just the fact that the amp tech threw it out along with Tony's desire to continue using it made my heart sink.
Granted this is from 2010 and maybe he has found his sound but it makes you wonder, "What if he came into contact with one of our resident builders?"

Since I last posted on this thread when it came out I've acquired two more builds
Along with my Black Country OC44 I got another with OC71

THe Pigdog Kills! Very full flavored and having the fullrange comes in handy for tailoring or creating new sounds. At the same time Ian's builds have a Magic thats hard to describe. The OC 44 sounds superior in my Gibsonette clone and the OC 71 (lower gain) cranked rules my 50w Marshall MkII

Sounds Heavenly
AC30 Custom Classic II
Heavily modded with nos tubes. I only use the normal channel and for the money it does sound good. With the mods it handles pedals well.

Bump
This photo was supposedly taken in 1964, which makes it the earliest sighting I'm aware of...

The Rangemaster Treble Booster was also advertised in one of the Bell catalogues from 1965

Since I got a Vox AC15 amplifier a few years ago, I've been totally hooked on these boxes
