One of my favourite albums ever! New stuff is meh, but still would love to watch these guys playing live.

Cool read. I've been obsessed with the tone from first album for a long time. I thought it was cooking Fender amp + Big Muff just to add this beautiful sustain. Ibanez Standard Fuzz is clever route though (I don't think Jason used it though), as it has broken raspy attack.

Funny thing is that I came here after hearing Philip's 1966 clip. I wanted to replicate this sound, so I got 1966, then another one with SFT transistors, just like the one Philip used. But it wasn't doing for me. Later on, while listening to the old Black Keys albums, I bought Ibanez Standard Fuzz. And I realized that I can get with it very similar lead tone to 1966 I was after :bong2:

The amps used. Definitely used a Muff on that material

We were right there by Jason, perfect spot for the show last night.
Big Muff was definitely the one that got that signature DM tone with Orange/Fender combo: Killer tone. Didn't use it for everything, which was nice. He was using a Rat for a lot of the material, of course leaning heavy on the Vox wah and Dunlop Rotovibe(?). Noticed he used a Catalinbread Echorec in a few freakout spots…and some others. Dan got more photos…Any pics of the pedalboard?

I'm glad i went. Jason is very good at what he does. Impressive balance of good songs/vocals and sounds/leads…and he definitely summoned a bit of soul there, in a few spots…It reminded me that Jimi Hendrix played that very room back in the day, yes? Goosebumps. I like that he's all about the music…They had the psychedelic light show (oils and overhead). But overall, i appreciated the unpretentious aspect.
