ok, I've had some time off to work on this stuff again, and am obsessing over details to the point when I need to step back, and am asking for some focus group advice

My enclosure styling is based on a smaller version of the Orpheum/Manny's folded steel look, and my designs are almost finished, but am undecided about the bases...

I wanted to follow through with the aesthetics and have a ribbed rubber mat on the bottom, like the originals, which i thought would be easy:



.... however, I have only found the self-adhesive ribbed matting I need in huge sheets and 1m lengths for quite a lot of money. Is it worth the trouble/expense to go by this route? As a potential buyer, do you care about this stuff? I could also go old school and get plain matting and get going with the contact adhesive.

On the other hand small-ish conical '60s Sola-style rubber feet might be better, but I can't seem to find a reasonable match that I like, after spending what feels like hours on the Farnell+RS websites. Again - do you give a shit, or are feet just feet? I'm not going for exact copies of 60s enclosures, just a similar look. I guess feet aren't deal breakers but I want the pedals to look good. Attention to detail. No white washers.

I really like the ribbed rubber, probably for the same reasons you do, Simon. It would also be a nice point of difference. But it's not a deal-breaker for me and to be honest I'm not sure most people would care or really notice. You might even find some who'd peel it off, which would only end up breaking your heart after all the trouble you went to to source it and stick it on.

BTW, I'd vote for feet. It's nice to have the option of (cleanly) removing them if attaching the unit to a pedalboard.

Thanks for indulging me with answers, guys - the pedalboard thing did occur to me.
I think the best option would be removable screw-on feet but with the mat as an optional extra in the box - not sure whether I'll do that, but we'll see!

Great idea! Does both options. I do like the rubber pad look the best though.

i like the rubber mat, but maybe feet are more practical
