Fender Soundette

Post by mrpicard »

Has anyone had any experience using one of these? What is the sound like, who has used it etc, etc. This is basically a magnetized drum echo device made by Fender from 67-68. To quote the original Fender documentation of the time "Adding new depth to vocal and instrumental performances, the Soundette, smallest solid-state unit in the Fender line, operates on a rotating drum principle, with five heads to record and erase sound. A tinted window, located on the top of the unit, enables the operator to view the rotating disc. Three effect switches, controlling speed (frequency) of the echo, may be combined for added effects". An interesting option was the ability to combine more than one delay at once, which created a pulsating effect. So, is is any good?

Are those the same as the Sound City ones from the 60s?

Looks interesting Mr. Picard.
That's the first I've seen of it.

I have no idea. Seems to me that the Soundette is Fender's attempt at a Binson Echorec type device.

Looks cool, maybe you can use it for reverb if all else fails :)
