Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
thanks Jim! me too. someone mentioned the WR might be too much for a 12'er in the neck position...
to be honest i'm not entirely sure it'll sport 12 strings when all done up.
all that's left is route the body and wire in the pickups. finished guard yesterday.

Certainly worth experimenting with the Wide range.

Re: What is on your workbench Tinkerers?
I admit this is minimal tinkerage but I am very happy with the result ...
Years ago I bought a 1970s Gretsch Super Axe ... it is a crazy thing with built-in effects
When I got it the neck pickup had been replaced with a horrifically over-powered
Gibson metally awful thing that was WAY too powerful for the bridge and totally unbalanced ...
Wisdom at the time was that the guitar originally contained Dimarzio Super Distortions because Chet Atkins
said that they did ... Chet's may have had them in but production models never did ... most sources
on the net still say that they do ...
I never followed up the Super Distortion line of thinking, it always seemed wrong to me ...
My understanding was that the guitar was supposed to have sounded like a 335 so I tried a number
of different things but was never satisfied with the result, to the end that the guitar was seldom
played ... when the lockdowns hit I found myself a bit short on cash so I was seriously considering
selling it on as I never used it
Anyhoo, it was discovered relatively recently that what went into production models are
actually relatively cheap Japanese Maxon pickups not the Dimarzios ... I managed to locate
a Maxon pickup from 1974 (the guitar is late 70s so it's near enough) and WHALLOP, the
talked-about 335 sound is right there :) I've fallen in love with it!
Dig the crazy built-in Phaser and Compressor
