What does the super zee knob do?
more specifically, how useful is the super zee knob in playing with loud pickups? i have a dam wedge mki and it chokes a little bit with this new guitar i got recently. i know the most current batch uses the same transistors as the wedge, so i know the same tone will be there, but im just trying to figure out if a 1965 would be better suited to me.
thank you!
thank you!

The answer to that question is always a resounding YES!erer wrote:im just trying to figure out if a 1965 would be better suited to me.

The super zee adds volume and a touch of bass to the MK I platform. The newer 1965s it adds a LOT of volume the older 65's less so. If I recall correctly the blue wedge MK I's already have the zee mode on them as standard?

Won't rolling the volume on the guitar back a bit give you the same results?erer wrote:Thank you, Dan! I'll just have to get a new pickup then.

Re: What does the super zee knob do?
Basically it cuts the output limiting resistor in half, from the stock 2.2 Meg down to 1 Meg. The first batch of the new 2015 1965's that went to Joe all had approx 1.5 Meg limiting as stock and the Super Zee bypassed it entirely.
If your MKI is one that Linz built it is likely to have the I Meg limiting resistor as stock. Likey so...
The point with the switch was to help the circuit handle higher gain pick-ups a little better but still in a vintage threshold, as in, not a modern Humbucker slamming out 22k or something hideous.
