What's In a (Meathead) Name?

Anyone know where David came up with the name for the "Meathead"? The only place I've ever heard it used was on archie bunker...

Isn't a meathead usually used to describe the big burly dude that you know who is dumb as a rock?


Big burly sound + simple circuit/knob layout = Meathead.

I always figured it had something to do with The Captain being a vegan. Sort of a shot a meat eaters (simple & obnoxious).
